FAQ

Question: Where is Girdwood Guest House located? Is it near a main street, highway, next to a school, hospital or bar? Is there a free parking lot?
Answer: Girdwood Guest House has "location, location, location". It is located at the base of Alyeska Mountain in a wooded residential area within 5 minutes walking distance from the base of the mountain. We e-mail our guests a map showing directions from Anchorage. Girdwood Guest House is about one mile from the small Girdwood business center and one mile from Hotel Alyeska. It is not located near a school, hospital or bar. It is about 5 minutes from Alyeska Highway, the main road into Girdwood. There is free private off street parking available for up to two passenger vehicles.

Question: Are pets allowed?
Answer: No

Question: Are children welcome?
Answer: Yes children are welcome. Age 5 and under are free. Over 5 rate is $20/day. There is no crib available. There is a full kitchen with refrigerator for baby formula and food.

Question: Is breakfast included? What is included? What time and where is it available?
Answer: A hearty self serve breakfast is provided. All self serve food and beverages are in the fully equipped B&B kitchen. Breakfast foods include: homemade bread, eggs, cheese, butter, jam, cold and hot cereal, juice, fruit, coffee, tea, milk, cocoa.

Question: Is the bathroom shared or private? Does it have both a tub and shower, Is there a TV? Cable? DVD player? Air conditioner
Answer: The bathroom is private. It has a tub and shower. Soap, lotion, shampoo, conditioner and fresh towels are provided. There is a cable TV with VCR. There is a fan, but no air conditioner.

Question: What activities are at the B&B?
Answer: There is internet connection at the Java House and Laundromat. Directions provided. There are community tennis courts, hiking trails both easy and difficult right out the front door. There are bike rentals available at Hotel Alyeska and the Girdwood Ski and Cyclery. There is a selection of books, magazines, and playing cards in the B&B.

Question: Are there activities nearby?
Answer: Within walking distance are popular hiking trails that take visitors into the Northernmost Rain Forest in North America, berry picking spots, over 12 miles of bike paths, good restaurants, playground & tennis courts. Within one hour's drive is Crow Creek Mine, Big Game Alaska (Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center), Begich Boggs Visitor Center at Portage Lake, Byron Glacier, Snowmobile and Dog Tours, The Ascending Path Climbing Guide Service, Prince William Sound cruises, Anchorage, and more...

Question: What are the rules for cancellations and refunds?
Answer: A 50% deposit is required at time of booking, fully refundable with a 14 day cancellation notice.

Question: Is someone at the front desk around the clock? If not, when can guests arrive?
Answer: If we can't be here to greet you upon your arrival we will always leave the B&B door unlocked. The key is on the kitchen table.
We usually talk with our guests regarding their arrival time at booking. Check-in is after 3 PM, but we always accept luggage prior to that time for our guests convenience.
